The Danish Lacrosse League warm-ups brought exitement to the spectators.
A great weekend of games, that featured the premiere of Denmarks newest team, ended succesfully for all teams. The first match between Copenhagen Lacrosse and Birkerød Pirates (soon to be Renegades) was won by Copenhagen. Copenhagen Lacrosse played really well in the first half, with Jonathan Gissel leading the Copenhagen attack. First half also witnessed a great crease dive by Ronnie Mathiesen, where he dived between three defenders to place the ball in the top right corner behind the Pirates goalie, Christian Schweitzer. Unfortunatly he dived so hard that his collarbone shattered to pieces. After the game Ronnie commented on the situation: "Well, I scored, didnt I. Totally worth it".
The wistle for second half started the return of the Pirates. With Jordan Lance Herrman leading the defensive effort, and also starting the goal scoring for Birkerød with a spectacular long stick goal, Birkerød held the Copenhagen team from scoring in half an hour. Add to that the pinpoint precision of Albert Mark, and the game was on. A well timed time out from the Copenhagen team fired up the last energy, stopping the Birkerød progress late in the last quarter. All in all a good game to watch, and Birkerød can be proud of their effort against the more experienced Copenhagen team. The result was 7-4 Copenhagen favor. The second match of the day featured a premiere for Danish Lacrosse. Ballerup Bandits played their first match. Again, we where in for a treat. Everybody was anxious to see what the new team was about, and how well they would perform against a strong Birkerød defence. And they did really well. Everybody was impressed with the progress of the young team, and Birkerød had to work hard for a victory. Especially Bablo Rosenberg was finding his game. When the wistle blew, Birkerød stood as victors, but Ballerups effort shows promises of great games in the future. Congratulations to coach Thomas Bengtsen on creating a team so fast, starting from just potential and hard work. Thanks goes out to Christian "Tex" for organising fields. |
